Survival of the fittest….

I was almost hit by a car once when I was about 10 years old. I was chasing a puppy into the street to try to keep it from being hit by an oncoming car. It missed me, but unfortunately, Tinkerbell was lost. I’m no animal rights activist or anything like that, but I’ve always had a soft spot for animals. I’m that person who would put a lost pet in a box and dig a hole for burial, after a few kind words and a few tears (o.k. – sometimes a little blubbering………Alright, alright! sometimes a whole lot of blubbering!)

Since moving to the country I’ve really had to learn and accept that animals will be lost, in spite of our very best efforts to care for them. Yesterday, we lost a chicken and a quail for no apparent reason. We also lost two baby kittens whose home in a hollowed tree was flooded by the storm. We found the mother and other two babies wet and cold on the side of the house. We dried them off, put them in a box and they are doing just fine.

Sometimes it is survival of the fittest and life on the farm goes on…

  1. You’re so good! God bless you and all your animals! Even the two-legged ones….LOL.

  2. Yes, it is survival of the fittest, and we all get to heaven on the shoulders of those we help. So glad you were able to save the kittens.
